Winter Dryness, Softened Water and Your Wallet
Believe it or not, it’s winter here in northern New Jersey. Despite the incredibly mild temperatures and lack of snow this year, there is still a lot of cold air and below 40 temps which we all know produce those pesky drying winter effects.
Why Is My Skin So Dry?
Our skin feels dryer in the winter months and that is because there is less moisture in the air than in the summer months. Air has the capacity to hold water. The warmer the air, the more moisture it can hold. Think about how the humidity feels during the summer months.
The colder the air, the dryer your skin. In the winter your body will naturally try and hold onto as much moisture as possible.
And we all know the long-term effects of dry skin – those dreaded wrinkles and fine lines.
Flyaway hair is another problem in the winter months. How many times have you taken off a hat and had your hair looks as if you’ve put your finger in a light socket? The drier air in the winter allows for electrically charged particles to freely float around causing your hair to be static-y. This is also the reason you get “shocks” from touching people more in the winter than in the summer.
Add to that the hard water in our area and you’ve lost the battle before you set foot on the battlefield. This is because hard water contains natural minerals which affect your hair. that coupled with the dry winter air and your hair is bound to feel and look a little straw-like.
Another tender spot that is affected by the harsh winter weather is your lips. It is so important to keep your lips subtle and soft. Here again lack of moisture or humidity in the air during the winter is known to cause chapped lips.
Will A Water Softener Be Helpful?
Simply stated, yes. Softening your water will help your dry skin, hair and lips. A water softening system in your home in Northern New Jersey will almost guarantee you’ll no longer suffer with dry chapped skin or lips. Your hair will be shiny and static free as well. Adding moisture to your physical system, whether it be internally or externally, is always helpful and beneficial.
Softened water is proven to be helpful to those with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Moisture Can Help You Save Some Money Too
You may be scratching your heard and asking yourself “how can moisture save me money?” The answer is summed up with one simple appliance – a water softener. The average family of 4 spends an average of $2000 a year on shampoos, conditions, body washes, lotions, lip moisturizing sticks and other skin saving products. Using softened water in your daily beauty regimen not only helps keep your skin feeling subtle, it helps you to use, and ultimately need, less of these products. Over time your skin, hair and pocketbook will all have benefited by simply softening the water and making those winter months a little more bearable.
