Hard Water and Your Health

Do you or a family member suffer from a chronic skin condition like eczema, psoriasis or other skin ailments or allergies? While the source of your condition may or may not be directly related to your bathing water, hard water can and does exacerbate these issues especially in children.

Hard water contains harsh minerals; specifically, calcium and magnesium. These minerals are very drying and affect the water’s Ph which affects the skin. Some studies correlate domestic hard water usage with increased eczema in children.[15][16][17] .

Our bodies are mostly water and that allows for easy flushing of toxins from the body. However, in children, and some adults, the toxins are not flushed as easily if they are only ingesting and using hard water to bathe. There are some studies that believe that allergies and/or asthma are related to eczema. So children with these breathing difficulties are struggling enough that they shouldn’t be dueling with a skin ailment as well.

Creating and maintaining the correct Ph and hardness levels are simple if you have the correct water softening system in place. If you’re not sure or would like to understand more, please give us a call. We’ll be happy to take you through the simple steps and help you and your family.
